Kosair Charities is proud to announce the recipients of its 2013 Roger Fox Award and 2013 Sam Swope Community Leadership Award, both to be recognized during Kosair Charities 5th Annual ‘Dreams Take Flight’ Gala celebrating 90 years of service on Saturday, August 24, at the Kentucky International Convention Center.
The winners are George C. Rodgers, MD, recipient of The Roger Fox Award and Henry Vogt Heuser Jr., recipient of The Sam Swope Community Leadership Award.
Dr. George Rodgers Jr., MD, Ph.D. is a senior faculty member at the University of Louisville and has been serving children in the community for more than 30 years. Rodgers is formerly University of Louisville Chief of Pediatric Critical Care and Medical divisions and served as Medical Director of the Kentucky Regional Poison Center in 1987. On top of his work at home, Rodgers has spent time serving those abroad. Since 1990 Rodgers has directed funded pediatric faculty education programs in Poland, Romania, Moldova, Vietnam, Siberia, Ghana, and Ecuador. Most recently, Rodgers spent time in Ghana improving the country’s pediatric care through training, arranging visiting teams, materials and supplies. Rodgers currently serves as a hospitalist physician at Kosair Children’s Hospital and occupies the Humana Endowed Chair in International Pediatrics at the University of Louisville. Rodgers feels immense pride in the work he has done and continues to do. He is honored to be the 2013 Roger Fox Award recipient.
Henry Vogt Heuser Jr. has a long history of leadership and service in the Louisville area. After graduating from Stanford, Heuser began his service by enlisting in the United States Navy. In 1970 Heuser returned from Vietnam and joined the family business, The Henry Vogt Machine Company. In 1993, Heuser became the company’s president and served as chairman until 2012. Heuser has been a guiding force in the development of many of the city’s civic and business institutions. Heuser has served and serves on many community boards, foundations and civic institutions. He has a passion for preserving the environment and has taken on leadership roles in the protection of Louisville’s parklands. Heuser currently serves as chairman and founder of Unistar and the Henry Vogt Foundation. Heuser adds the 2013 Sam Swope Community Leadership Award to his many recognitions from the community for his continued service.
‘Dreams Take Flight’ was created to acknowledge and honor a select group of the area’s most distinguished members of the medical community, as well as to spotlight and garner awareness for the amazing work of a number of exceptional Kentucky and Southern Indiana charities. The 2013 black tie Gala commences on Saturday,
August 24, at 5:00 p.m.
