Dr. Rif El-Mallakh joins Wellspring Board of Directors

Dr. Rif. S. El-Mallakh, Professor and Director of the Mood Disorders Research Program at the U of L School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences has joined the Wellspring Board of Directors, and will serve on the Program Committee.

For the last 20 years Rif has focused his research on the pathophysiology of bipolar illness. He has published over 190 pear reviewed papers, has been funded by NARSAD, NIMH, and the pharmaceutical industry, has served as reviewer for both NIMH and the Canadian Research Council, as well as reviewer for several psychiatric publications and smaller granting agencies. Dr. El-Mallakh has received over 24

awards, including the Gerald L. Klerman Young Investigator from the National Depressive and Manic Depressive Association and multiple Golden Apple teaching awards from the residents he enjoys working with. Rif’s wealth of knowledge and experience will be a great asset to the Wellspring Program Committee, and to the entire agency.
