CINCINATTI — Feb. 3, 2023 — A number of transactions and growth announcements highlight how Ohio’s health tech and life science community continues to grow

- Safecor – a unit dose packager in Columbus – is adding 100 jobs
- Meridian Bioscience – a developer and manufacturer of diagnostics in Cincinnati – successfully closes on $1.5 billion acquisition
- Medpace – a contract research organization in Cincinnati – announced 1,500 new jobs and a $150 million investment
- Thermo Fisher Scientific – which has a pharmaceutical product testing operation in Highland Heights, KY – is adding 200 jobs and investing $60 million
Indiana has long been known as a hotbed for life science companies – likely stemming from Lilly, Cook and Zimmer. It would be interesting to know what is causing central and southern Ohio’s health tech and life sciences sector to grow. The companies tend to cluster around diagnostic devices, pharmaceutical packaging / fulfilment and clinical research and testing services. Several local assets likely contribute. Of note is Humana’s
