The Making Smiles Happen Surveillance Initiative is an oral health survey of third and sixth grade children to determine the need for additional dental programs and to describe the oral health of Kentucky’s children. Making Smiles Happen is Delta Dental of Kentucky’s charitable initiative and their commitment to serving communities in the state, one smile at a time. The project is in partnership with Kentucky Youth Advocates, the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, and several other local and statewide partners.
Bullitt Lick Middle School has been randomly selected as one of 60 schools to participate in the initiative and will serve as the kickoff school for sixth grade students to receive oral health screenings. The project will screen 6,000 students in Kentucky and take 18 months to complete.
