Fitzgerald is new mission leader at Flaget Memorial Hospital

Shane Fitzgerald, M.A., M.Div., has joined Flaget Memorial Hospital as its new chief mission leader.

The Louisville native was raised in southern Indiana. He came to Bardstown from Jeffersonville, Indiana, where he most recently taught theology at Our Lady of Providence High School. Fitzgerald has degrees from Indiana University and The School of the Aquinas Institute of Theology.

In his new role, Fitzgerald will be responsible for ensuring that Flaget’s mission, vision and values are integrated into all hospital services.

“The core values of reverence, integrity, compassion and excellence, for example – those are universals that we want to promote throughout the organization,” the new chief mission leader said. “I’m proud to be affiliated with an organization that focuses on patient-centered care.”

When he interviewed for his position, his interviewers called the hospital staff “the Flaget Family,” Fitzgerald said. From his very first days on the job, “it’s been very evident that a family atmosphere is alive and well at the hospital.”

Flaget President and CEO Sue Downs is excited to have Fitzgerald onboard, she said.

“Shane is a blessing to our hospital, and to the larger community,” Downs said. “We are very grateful to have attracted someone with his training and his commitment to excellent care to the mission leader role at our facility.”

Flaget Memorial is a member hospital of KentuckyOne Health.
