Sixty-eight doctors with University of Louisville Physicians have made the highly regarded “Best Doctors in America” list for 2014. Only 5 percent of doctors in the U.S. earn the honor, a product of impartial, validated peer review in which doctors who excel in their specialties are selected by their peers.

UofL Physicians doctors on the list include such notable names as Dr. Toni Ganzel, an otolaryngologist and dean of the University of Louisville School of Medicine; Dr. Kelly McMasters, a surgical oncologist and chair of the Department of Surgery; Dr. Jesse Roman, a pulmonologist and chair of the Department of Medicine; and Dr. Henry Kaplan, an ophthalmologist and chair of the Department of Ophthalmology.

“It’s an honor for me to be named to this list,” said Dr. Kaplan, who has appeared on the list 25 times. “It’s considered the gold standard in physician ratings, and the fact that so many doctors with UofL Physicians are on it shows the quality and strength of the team that we have here. The Best Doctors in America list, assembled by Best Doctors Inc., is the result of exhaustive polling of over 45,000

physicians in the U.S. In a confidential review, current physician listees answer the question, “If you or a loved one needed a doctor in your specialty, to whom would you refer?”
