After 24 years of service to the children at Our Lady of Peace, Sister Betty MacDougall, Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, will celebrate her retirement on September 21, 2012.
Sr. Betty is the last Sister of Charity serving at Our Lady of Peace.
A lifelong educator, Sr. Betty became principal of the school that was established as part of the youth treatment program at Our Lady of Peace in 1988. One year later, the program became part of Jefferson County Public Schools and Sr. Betty moved into the role of liaison between Our Lady of Peace and JCPS. At the time, the school had approximately 50 students.
Today, more than 50 JCPS staff work with children at Our Lady of Peace in 25 classrooms to provide ongoing education so that the children can continue their studies while receiving treatment. Peace Academy has been designated as a Best Practice Site by the Kentucky Department of Education.
