From Dr. Charles Peck, interim president of Jewish Hospital and leader downtown market, KentuckyOne Health
The KentuckyOne Health family is deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Harold Kleinert. The world has lost a true medical pioneer, one whose groundbreaking research and surgical skill in hand and finger treatment and transplantation changed so many lives.
Jewish Hospital became known as the foremost center for hand treatment because of his expertise. Surgeons and patients alike have traveled great distances to be trained or treated by his skilled hands. As a result, more than 1,300 hand fellows from around the world have become expert hand surgeons and, subsequently, hundreds of thousands of patients have had their hands saved and their lives transformed.
Both Louisville and the world’s medical community will dearly miss Dr. Kleinert, yet his legacy will endure through the lives he’s impacted as a surgeon, teacher, mentor, colleague and friend.
