Panel to address how ACA will affect local businesses.
One Southern Indiana (1si) the chamber of commerce and economic development organization for Clark and Floyd counties will host an Affordable Care Act Forum on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at Northside Christian Church in New Albany, Ind. Indiana State Representative Ed Clere will moderate the forum which will include a panel of experts who will discuss the characteristics of the act and how it will affect businesses. The public is welcome to attend the forum which will include handouts and a time for questions and answers.
A brief legislation background will be shared followed by topics relating to: employer mandate requirements; Medicaid expansion; Disproportionate Share Hospital Payment (DSH payments); patient affects; penalties under the plan; insurance rates; exchanges; and tax implications and provisions.
“Although the federal government has delayed the rollout of employer required provisions, we highly recommend business owners and employers attend this forum to better prepare themselves for the future,” said Wendy Dant Chesser, president and CEO of 1si. The panel will include: Joe Gilbert, Regional Vice President, Individual and Small Group, for Anthem BlueCross BlueShield of Indiana; Doug Leonard, President of the Indiana Hospital Association; John Rittichier, Vice President in the Tax Department at Harding, Shymanski & Company, P.S.C; and Ozair Shariff, Associate at Stites & Harbison, PLLC.
